Pottenstein Rodelbahn

We took a trip to the Sommerrodelbahn in Pottenstein. We had great fun zipping down the side of the mountain.

Storming the Castle

The boy goes back to school tomorrow. YAY (That's from all of us!) Today he felt just fine, but was not allowed back in school. So we played hookie. He even managed to get me outside with swords and shields, which is when this conversation occurred.

"I am King Wendall, and I come to see your Prince!"
"He's not home--go away!"
"Let me in or I shall attack!"
"Oh yeah, well take that! And that! And now I'm going to attack your castle, just to be mean!"
"HA HA! I shall fight you!"

....Much fighting with swords....

me:"Hey! Did you just cut off my leg?"
boy:"Yes...but you are trying to attack my castle. I'm protecting my family."
"I don't care about your family! They are free to go. I just want the castle, you have a great view!"
"Stay away from my castle! It has my snowglobes!"
O.o "Ohhh, I like snowglobes. Hey! Did you just cut off my other leg?"
"YES! And now I am going to dance in YOUR castle!"
"Grrrr"

Home sick

The boy is sick at home today and probably tomorrow. A fever and some tummy issues which we will do our best to patch up quickly.

Todaay we will have a quiet day at home, although we do have to go to the store for more miso soup. I tried to give him chicken noodle, but it just wasn't the same.

He did manage to get an excellent shot of Nolo:

School Picture Day

Yesterday we woke up and rushed through our morning routine, adding a tie to the mix. We sent Wendall to school all dressed up for picture day.

Turned out that picture day was today. Oops!

Oh, and they had ravioli for lunch.

So after two runs through the washing machine, we once again buttoned up his only white shirt, clipped on his tie, and sent him off to school.

Don't mess with this boy and his clip-on tie! Posted by Picasa

Nocturnal Animals

Wendall held up his hand, formed a fist, and knocked on an imaginary door. Then he turned around. He smiled and said "Knock-Turnal. That's a kind of animal. It stays awake all night. A bat is a nocturnal animal. So is an owl and sometimes a snake. I learned that at school."

Wow!

"Zwei Kugel Shocolade, Bitte!"

We took a bike/stroll downtown for some chocolate ice cream. The boy decided to ean against his bike instead of fighting for a table. Posted by Picasa

First Day Smile

First Day Smile
Originally uploaded by allysther.
He came home happy and really tired. We actually had to go back to school for an open house, and he fell asleep on the way there. His teacher tells me that he was in constant motion. In a good way.

He was happy to tell me that he was able to help a few people on his first day, and that a boy on the bus had helped him when he needed a hand.

Early morning rush

Tomorrow the early morning rush begins. The boy will head to his first day at the American Kindergarden an base. We will walk him to the bus and kiss him for luck, and after a few photos he will be on his own.

I think it is the bus that is making me hold my breath. He was in school for most of last year, and he did just fine. He is looking forward to a new school this year, and he likes his teacher and his classroom. There was something about dropping him off at school every day, though, that I will really miss. I will have no contact with the teacher except through him. I will not hear about his day, or her weekend, or any of the little things that made me so comfortable at his old school.

I know that he will be just fine. I have a list of errands to run tomorrow, some of which have been put off for the entire month he has been home. The day will pass quickly, and he will come home filled with stories. I plan to walk him straight to the ice cream parlour and let him order whatever he wants ("Zwei kugel schokolade, bitte!") and then bring him home to play and plan for the next day.

Look for a photo asap!
